So again I have gone on a blogging hiatus and it looks like a workout hiatus as well. Work has been my main focus for the past 2 weeks. I have a ton of events next week and have only been concentrating on getting them done. The good thing is that while I haven’t been working out, I have locked down on the family diet here in Hoboken. I have been making sure that we eat tons of vegetables and have even convinced Nick to start packing a lunch so he can be in control of what he eats. And as an added benefit it saves money.
I have been in the office all week, and while I don’t have the ability to pack a lunch here, I have been making sure to eat as healthy as possible. Considering I am only getting in 75% of my workouts this week, I am trying to at least be good at something. For the past two days I have eaten, cottage cheese for breakfast, fresh spinach with olive oil and lemon dressing and a scoop of tuna for lunch and then a grapefruit as a snack. Dinner is a lean protein and two veggies. And my favorite part is, brussel sprouts are back! My obsession continues this winter.
On the workout front, I taught on Monday but had to get a sub for Tuesday so I could stay late at work. Then I headed home for a 2 hour speed drill on my bike. It was too late to get my run in, so I just ate dinner and went to bed. Tonight I have a work dinner function so unfortunately I am SOL on today’s workout as well. I am hoping to at least get up early tomorrow and get a workout in and get home at a decent time tomorrow night and get in another. Then I should be able to get back to normalcy….or I am going to have to devise a plan to add at least 3-4 more hours to my days.
Yet another year in training, but this year I plan on being smarter, faster and stronger.

Spin, Swim, Steam, Repeat
Yup, I think that sums it up for me this week. I have been picking up extra classes for people, because I am a nice person (also known as a sucker). I taught Monday morning, Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The good thing is that it gets me out of bed nice and early and then really I have no excuse to not swim. I have to walk by the pool to leave so I have to do it. And really after taking the week off of swimming after I poked my eye out, swimming is hard. The bad thing, is that I have to swim.
This week I am supposed to be resting so I can get in my bike test, but I am not sure that what I have been doing is considered resting. And then on top of it all, I am killing myself and not losing a GD pound! Nothing!! I mean how does a person work out this much and not see any results?!?!?
Today I have a 1:30 z1/z2 bike and a 40 min z1/z2 run. As of right now, I am feeling quite sluggish so this work out should be interesting. I am hoping to turn a corner after lunch and get some energy. Wishful thinking? Maybe, but I am going with it. So wish me luck!

Did those words just come out of my mouth?
That was the theme of last weekend. On Friday I got in a quick workout at lunch of quarter mile repeats, to which my comment in my training log was, "I felt like crap". And there you go! After getting over said crappy feeling I headed into the city to join a fun group of friends to watch the first night of the PBR tour in NYC. No, not the Pabst Blue Ribbon tour, although I would go to one if there was one, the Professional Bull Riding tour. Every year in January they come to NYC and a group of us get together to have some adult fun and bet on some bulls, or riders for that matter.
On Saturday I got up early to get in my 3 hour ride and run and then it was time for some quality time on the couch. We had a house warming party that night for some friends who had just moved out to the burbs. We had a ride home and we were planning on taking the train there. That is when I decided, I would rather drive than drink, so I became the DD for the night.
On Sunday, I got up early again for a 1 hour Z1 run, 1 hour ZR ride and then another 1 hour Z1 run. What a Sunday! My first hour my pace was around 9:06 miles. I got home got on the bike and few hours later went out to try again. My second hour's pace was 9:03 miles. I am not sure how that happened. I would have thought since I was tired I would have run a bit slower the 2nd time around, but not the case. Then I made another uncharacteristic decision to not watch the playoffs and instead head into the city to walk around. Whaaaa? Who is this girl???? So we headed into the city early to walk around and get a burger.
Sunday was also my favorite date night of the year. We went to the closing night of the Big Apple Circus. What fun! We were one of the few couples there that didn't have kids, but we still managed to fit in, by having me throw a temper tantrum when Nick wouldn't buy me a stuffed dog. I mean it had to be done, we didn't want to look out of place!
After the circus we headed back home to get to bed early so I could be all set and ready for class and swimming this morning. And I actually slept the night! Yup thank god for small miracles.
Now that all the working out is done, I am getting ready to head out and fill my belly with some sushi. I hope everyone had a great start to their week!

Now That the Dust Has Settled
What a whirlwind week of fun holiday festivities. So first and foremost, Happy Holidays to all and I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years. Ok now that that is out of the way....As I have gotten back into work and reading my daily blogs I have read a lot of 2011 recaps and I can't even begin to imagine recapping mine. It has been an insane year, with lots of great things, like getting back to racing after my injury, getting married and getting to spend some quality bonding time with some amazing people. I had a great 2011. Now I can't lie, there were also some sad times and times where I felt a little tested, but we all made it through and now it is on to the next!
Speaking of on to the next, I have been trying really hard to get my shit in order and plan out this year of racing. Needless to say, it isn't quite working out as planned! I am going to try to plan out January-May at least, today. Let's see how successful I am with that one! As for any other plans for this year, I currently don't have many. Everyone sits around this time of year and talks about resolutions. I am not sure that I have any that are any different from my normal everyday goals. Just get better at what I do. There you go!
This week I am focusing on getting my ass out of bed in the morning (baby steps, people). With the temperature dropping I am having a hard time getting out of bed before 8, ok let's be realistic, 9am. I would rather sit in bed and cuddle with the dog than face the cold. I am getting all of my workouts in, just later in the day, which is something I would rather not do. So that is the goal for the next few weeks. My resolutions go week by week people! And I don't mind patting myself on the back a little, today I got up at 6:45am. Mind you, I am not doing anything really but having coffee and watching the news, but I am up damn it!
I do have one race picked out, the Ocean Marathon on March 25th, so that is what I have been training for as of late. I am feeling pretty good, except that my lower back has been bothering me. I am beginning to think it might be that I work from my coffee table. Sitting the way I do every day for hours, could be having a negative effect on my back. So I am going to try to move my laptop to the kitchen table to see if that helps. So it has been some decent long runs and some speed work on the bike.
Other than that, life is the same old, same old. And I can't say I mind it! I hope everyone is having a great start to the year and getting their 2012 race schedules together. Feel free to send over race ideas if you have them, I am open to some new ones this year.
